Apparently S02E02 of Merlin is to be called "The Once and Future Queen."

...

LOL. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL. XD

Okay, so it probably just means Uther's going to marry a troll, as hinted at in the season preview (which... I swear to you I have ACTUALLY READ THAT FIC. No, seriously. I am not making this up.) but still. Let's just say, I have been watching a lot of Queer as Folk lately, and the image of Arthur in a sequin-y dress with tons of sparkly makeup and high heels with rhinestones all over them WILL NOT LEAVE MY BRAIN. Oh, Show. You do love me. _ :D

❶ Choose an episode of anime or television series you have on your computer. Make sure you're certain you want that one, you cannot change your mind. DO NOT TELL YOUR FLIST WHAT YOU CHOSE.
❷ Make note of how long the episode is here -> 43:58
❸ Ask your flist to choose a time between 00:00 and whatever the length of your episode is. Be specific, (ie: 19:11, 21:09, 02:42)
❹ Make them an icon using THAT FRAME ONLY no matter what it is. And remember, you can only use that ONE episode you chose previous, even if the person posting isn't familiar with it.

So.  Dreamwidth.

Thanks to [info]kelene , I have an account!  Um, yay?  I've been poking around, and it does seem very cool over here.  For one thing there are NO ADS, which is indeed a plus.  For another I can crosspost this entry to lj just by checking a little box, which is cool.  And now that I've said that about crossposting I really hope that it actually, you know, works.

I think I'm probably going to put up my fics on here (you know, all two of them) and then... I don't know.  We'll see how things turn out.  Honestly I hadn't even heard of Dreamwidth until about a week ago, when it seemed like everybody on my flist was jumping ship.  Or rather cautiously extending a toe from one ship to the other, while actually mostly staying on the first ship - I think this metaphor has lost its usefulness.  Probably I am going to do what many other people seem to be doing: sort of mirror my lj on Dreamwidth and wait for developments.

I'm also nianeyna on dw if you want to find me over there (here?  This crossposting thing could get confusing fast...).

In honor of [info]dreamwafflesfinally watching Merlin, I decided to go through my bookmarks and put together a list of my very favoritest Merlin fics, a sort of introduction to the fandom, if you will (or even if you won't). I'm much too lazy to put these in any particular order or organize them by length or rating or what have you, so you're just going to have to put up with my half-assed summaries. Anyway, twenty-two Merlin fics, for whoever wants them:

Cut to save flists )

So there you have it. All I have left to say is that, if anyone is reading this and thinking, "Shock! Horror! My very favoritest Merlin fic is not here!" then I would be an extremely happy penguin if you would comment with a link, and possibly a short description. Remember: the fandom gods smile on those who share good fics with others. Let's all pretend I didn't just pull that out of my butt.

Ahahaha, seriously you guys, it's not even funny.

...Okay, so it's a little funny, actually.

Anyway, so in history we're learning about Ancient Near East civilizations, and today the professor was telling us the story of the Epic of Gilgamesh, which is basically about this badass king in Mesopotamia.  He's kind of a bitch though, so the people get pissed off at him and pray to the gods to take him down a notch or two.  The gods are like, "hey, so, this king is kind of a bitch" so they send this wild man named Enkidu to run around with the animals and mess up all the hunting.  As smiting goes it's kind of weird and lame, but whatever.  Anyway, the king is not really suited to a vegetarian lifestyle so he sends a prostitute out to have sex with Enkidu for a week (!), after which Enkidu becomes civilized and "wise", and loses his ability to chillax with the animals.  (No, really.  I couldn't make this stuff up.)  Then Enkidu goes and fights Gilgamesh, after which, of course, they become best friends.

The two of them journey around fighting a ton of monsters and stuff, until Gilgamesh gets proposed to by the goddess Ishtar.  Here's a paraphrased snapshot of what went on in the classroom during this part of the story:

PROFESSOR: Then Gilgamesh was proposed to by Ishtar, who was basically the Mesopotamian Aphrodite, goddess of love and fertility, and he turned her down -
MY BRAIN: because he was having hot man sex with Enkidu.
PROFESSOR: because, he said, she brought misfortune to any man who was associated with her.  Ishtar was so offended that she decided to kill Enkidu.  Gilgamesh was heartbroken.
MY BRAIN: ...QED.  Hot man sex.

I had to stop myself from cracking up during class, because then people tend to ask what you're laughing about.  And that would have been awkward.  XD

This is how my latest computer science assignment has gone.

Nia: *types*
Nia: *compiles*
Compiler: You fail!
Nia: Huh.  *moves semicolons around*
Compiler: *all but one of the errors is gone*
Compiler: chutes.cpp:9: error: expected unqualified-id before "using"
Nia: Err, what?
*looks at program*
*cannot figure out what the heck the problem is*
*emails teacher*
Teacher: Err, what?  There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with it.  Try copying it into a new file.  Maybe it's got a HIDDEN CHARACTER.
Nia: ...ok... *copies*
*compiles*
Compiler: chutes.cpp:9: error: expected unqualified-id before "using"
Nia: Grr.  Sheesh.  Well, maybe this supposed "hidden character" got copied along with the rest...
Nia: *retypes the ENTIRE PROGRAM by hand*
Compiler: ...
Compiler: chutes.cpp:9: error: expected unqualified-id before "using"
Nia: OH MY GOD, CAN'T YOU SAY ANYTHING ELSE!?!

Normally I would just say the heck with it and move on, but I have to use this class in my next asignment, which means it HAS to compile.  Somehow.  I'm just going to have to figure out how before 11 am on Tuesday.  *head/DESK*

Reply to this post, and I will list three or more things I like about you. Then repost to your own journal to spread the love.

In other news, for those of you who I haven't already squeed to at length, I JUST BOUGHT A NEW LAPTOP!!!!111!!1!  It is a Midnight Blue Dell XPS 1530, and I am already in love with it even though I haven't actually seen it yet.  It should be landing in my eager palms sometime early next week.

So basically I am now totally, utterly broke.  Ummmm, yeah.  But, ohgod, so worth it.  :D

PS My NaNo hit finals, choked, and sputtered to a halt.  But I'm not done with this story yet!  I'm not going to make any promises since I always break them, but I have high hopes for this one, oh yes I do.

I don't know if any of you are interested, but I am about to embark on a Most Excellent Adventure, which, boiled down to its essentials, involves reading all twenty Master and Commander books, a chapter a week.  More information behind the cut, taken directly from the community info page:

If you're interested, head on over to mandc_read.livejournal.com and check it out.  If not, just ignore me; I'm used to it.  XD

I kind of want to cry.

I just watched the end of this show, I think it's called Crowned.  It's a reality TV show wherein mother and daughter teams compete in a beauty pageant.  I think a numbered list is the best way to present my grievances, to wit:

1)  The show that used to be on at eight o'clock on Tuesdays was Bones.  It was about an anthropologist who solves murder mysteries.  It was good.  This?  Is not.

2) Eeeeew!  Old women trying desperately to look young!  I mean, don't get me wrong, mature women can be quite beautiful.  However, I do not think that Botox and excessive foundation are the way to accomplish this.

3) The pair that gets kicked off has to cut off their beauty pageant sashes with a huge pair of scissors which has, no lie, turquoise sequins all over the handle.  Isn't that kind of dangerous?  Not to mention gratuitously humiliating.

4) They all apparently had to pick team names.  First of all, what is this, PE?  Second of all, the names were horrid.  The team that got kicked off this time was named the Tomboy Queens.  Really, I am not even kidding you.  Did they actually think before they picked that name?

5) The judges or whatever they were were really, really weird.  I don't know how to describe it, except maybe that anyone who would voluntarily participate in something like this must not be quite right in the head.  Also, the one woman said how everyone's dresses were so beautiful.  What?  The dresses looked like third graders playing dress up, actually.

Do people actually watch this show, other than to make fun of it?  I mean, I just, I don't understand it!  My brain, it hurts.

I really hope the writer's strike gets resolved soon (by the way, I totally support the writers in this whole mess), so that we don't have to be scarred by this drivel anymore whenever we happen to turn on the TV.

[end rant]

My friends and  I were eating lunch today in room 108, which is a geometry classroom, and we got to talking about House, MD, in particular the most recent episode.  In the course of the conversation, we wrote on the whiteboard the following geometric proof:

Given that House says "I love you", prove that House and Wilson are life partners.

We used Hugh Laurie's eyebrows as our evidence.  Then we proceeded to leave the proofs up for the next class to puzzle over.

Having real life friends who are in fandom is THE BEST EVER.

Okay so, basically, writing Foolfic is hard

It is hard for many reasons, but one of the main ones (for me at least) is that the Fool is so pretty.   I'm doodling along, right, fic is being written, and then just as I'm getting to the good bits about thick brown hair and slim elegant hands, my pen sort of slows down and then stops moving altogether (yes, I write my drafts longhand, because I am Old Skool) while I stare off into the distance with a truly stupid smile on my face.

Another reason that it is so hard, of course, is that the Fool is so, you know, elusive, which is what we love about him but it does make him difficult to write.  But the number one most annoying thing about this fic that is currently EATING MY BRAIN is that for some absurd reason I thought it would be a good idea to try to write Fitz first person.  I want to stab my eyes out.  I can't seem to summon up the necessary angst and idiocy, but then I'm also afraid that if I try too hard I'll go off the other end and overdo it, because really, Fitz isn't all that bad, and also I have to allow for a certain number of years of him maturing, and presumably getting more mellow, but how much mellowing is really plausible?  Argh.  Apologies to those of you on my teeny flist who have no idea what I'm talking about, by the way.

Also miarr, if I ever finish this dratted thing would you be willing to beta it?

So, I dug another one of these out of my notebook for y'all.  And, um, I'm not going to say anything else except that when it comes to Hobbdom I seem to be constitutionally incapable of writing anything longer than 500 words.  That is all.  Have fic.

I wrote this partly because I always wondered about Amber's earrings, and partly because I wanted to get inside the Fool's head (don't we all).  So without further ado - here.

School is out!  Oh, glorious summer, how I love thee.  I have basically been lying around doing more or less nothing for the past week... well, that's not entirely true.  I went sailing last week (and I'm going sailing again tonight, and probably next week, and the week after that... since I am the only Sailing Club leader who is not going on vacation this summer, it falls to me to organize most of the summer sails, i.e. find people who want to go on them besides me.  Which is okay by me, actually.  Whee, sailing!  That aside turned out to be much longer than I meant it to be) and yesterday I helped my mom at work, and plus, now I have the time and energy to actually play my violin occasionally instead of just glancing longingly at it every so often as it gathers dust in the corner.  And I made cookies, which disappeared alarmingly fast considering I made eight dozen.  But mostly, I really have not been doing anything.  It is quite wonderful.

Oh, yes, I really love summer.

Have you ever spent five minutes talking to someone in the next room, only to realize that there is in fact nobody there?

This is especially jolting if you were really starting to warm to your topic.  Not that I would know this from experience, of course.

I'm going to wander off and do my homework now.  For real this time.

Well, I turned in my research paper on Friday, which is a big relief.  This week I get to do a huge Spanish project, though...

Did I say my research paper had eaten my life?  No.  I definitely have a life.  In fact, I have a little too much of a life.  Spring break is a joke: I'm going to be busy all through it.  What I do not have is a mind with which to cope with said life.  My research paper, along with sundry other things, has actually eaten my brain (not my life).  Sad, isn't it?  Ah, well, these things happen.  Perhaps someday it will be regurgitated and I can wipe the bile off of it and put it to some use again.  Until then I shall simply have to muddle along.

ETA: Strangely enough, I somehow managed to do more or less absolutely nothing during spring break. Odd, isn't it?
